June 3rd - 60,000 Square-Foot Monolithic Dome
3401 Mariposa Drive, Valparaiso, IN
Previously a manufacturing plant and bakery for Natural Ovens, the facility sits on approximately 8.5 acres.
Located in southeast Valparaiso at the intersection of Indiana 49 and Indiana 2 (Laporte Avenue), the dome has a diameter of over 220 feet with a ceiling height of 65 feet. The term monolithic is used to describe this structure because the exterior is cast in one piece, making it one of the most durable forms of architecture. It is nearly completely earthquake and tornado resistant, earning a FEMA rating of “near absolute protection” from Category F5 tornadoes.
In addition to its durability, the dome offers an energy-efficient design with savings up to 50% when compared with that of traditional buildings. Additional features include a rear-loading dock with nine bays and a second-story mezzanine with elevator access.
The property is across the street from Porter's Vale Shopping Center, which includes J C Penney department store and new CineMark Cinema movie theatre along a main retail corridor of Valparaiso. |
